The AACR Foundation supports the mission of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) – to understand, prevent, diagnose, treat, and​​cure cancer through research, education, communication, and collaboration.​

The AACR takes great care in placing your donation where it truly belongs: in the hands of scientists working on breakthroughs in cancer research. While working hard to keep expenses low, the Foundation raised a total of more than $64 million in 2018.

The AACR and the AACR Foundation are 501(c)(3) public charities as determined by the Internal Revenue Service. We provide transparency to assure our members and our donors that their dollars are wisely used.

The goal of the AACR Foundation is to prevent and cure cancer by promoting research, supporting researchers, increasing understanding, and raising awareness. 

The Foundation does so by funding programs deemed by the American Association for Cancer Research to be of the highest priority and impact.

Here are just a few of the AACR's  accomplishments in 2018: 

  • The AACR provided over $65 million to support peer-reviewed scientific publications, as well as research grants, awards, and prizes to fund and recognize innovative, meritorious research.

  • More than 22,500 attendees registered for the AACR Annual Meeting 2018. More than 6,000 scientific abstracts were selected for presentation, complementing an outstanding program of scientific and educational events.

  • The AACR hosted 25 scientific conferences and educational workshops.

  • Published eight peer-reviewed scientific journals: Cancer Discovery; Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention; Cancer Immunology Research; Cancer Prevention Research; Cancer Research; Clinical Cancer Research; Molecular Cancer Research, and Molecular Cancer Therapeutics.

  • 42 million full-text views of AACR journal articles were recorded.

  • Since 1961, the AACR has presented more than 400 prizes, awards, and lectureships recognizing the achievements of researchers and physicians who have made significant contributions to the understanding, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer.
