Research Stewardship

Cancer has affected each of us in deeply personal ways. For many, those individual experiences have awakened the need to join the fight to prevent and cure the hundreds of diseases we call cancer.

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) stands with individuals, families, foundations, companies, and others who have joined that ongoing effort. As the first and largest cancer research organization in the world, with a membership made up of more than 42,000 of the brightest minds in their fields, the AACR is well-positioned to assist its partners seeking to make investments that have a powerful impact on cancer research.

The Foundation's goal is to help you achieve the greatest return on your research dollars with thoughtful guidance: from goal setting and proposal development to the identification of promising research projects, grantee selection, and grant oversight and reporting.

The AACR's scientific expertise across the entire spectrum of cancer research from basic science to translational and clinical research means our partners can focus on achieving their goals for their research investments.

The following are just a few of AACR's Partners in Finding Cures Together:

Kure It

Kure It is a nonprofit organization providing funding for innovative research projects focused on kidney cancer and other underfunded cancers. The funds raised through Kure It directly support groundbreaking research at leading cancer centers around the country. Since 2012, Kure It has supported the Innovative Grants in Kidney Cancer Research program with more than $1 million in grants awarded in collaboration with the AACR. Kure It's commitment to this crucial translational research effort is allowing talented investigators to make important breakthroughs.

The John and Elizabeth Leonard Family Foundation

Established in January 2011 by John and Elizabeth Leonard, the Leonard Family Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of others by promoting medical research and education, by supporting the health and welfare of the disadvantaged, and by promoting environmental awareness. The Leonard Family Foundation partners with the AACR to fund Fellowships in Basic Cancer Research.

Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation

Founded in 2004, the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NTRF), formerly known as the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation, funds peer-reviewed research to develop better treatments and cures for patients with carcinoid and pancreatic neuroendocrine cancers. NTRF has awarded more than $10 million to leading scientists and physicians at renowned institutions throughout the U.S. and across the globe. Along with its focus on research, NTRF is committed to supporting patients, families, friends, and caregivers by providing them with complete and up-to-date information. Since 2011 NTRF worked with the AACR, providing over $2 million in support across the spectrum of cancer research – from basic science to clinical and translational research, including the CFCF-AACR Grants for Carcinoid Tumor and Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Research.

Stand Up To Cancer

The AACR is the Scientific Partner of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), whose mission is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. Founded in 2007, SU2C brings together the best and brightest researchers and, through its grants, promotes collaboration within the cancer community. When SU2C was fashioning its initiative, the organization turned to the AACR as its Scientific Partner. In that key role, the AACR provides expert peer review, grants administration, and scientific oversight to the SU2C Dream Teams as well as individual awardees that seek to push forward innovative cancer research. Since the beginning of the partnership, SU2C has invested more than $170 million in support of cancer research.
